Bad Weather

Yestarday was our first tornado watch of the season (about a month earlier that we're used to). I learned last year never to underestimate the weather in Illinois. On April 2nd we had what they called "straight line winds". Hubby and I had just finished watching a movie, I flipped the DVD player off. I remember that there wasn't any warnings or anything on the t.v. I turned the t.v. down, because I could hear the wind picking up. It all happened so fast, but I remember every second like they were each an hour. I glanced up at the window, through the blinds I could see a orangish/redish glow. Then there started a low rumbling. Quickly it was defening. I remember the preasure change, like the air was thin. At the same time, hubby had noticed the wind picking up in the back bedroom. He picked up his weather radio and was turning it on while walking out of the room. I rounded the corner of the living room, seeing him standing there looking kind of confused I grabbed his hand and I remember hearing myself yelling, "Its Coming!". I pushed him into the middle bedroom and into the closet. I jumped in after him and slammed the door closed. He was still going, "Whats Going On?!". The full blast of the "wind" came down on us and it was like an explosion. I thought for sure the house had colapsed around us. Then it was over. We heard the rain ontop of the house and I peeked the door open. The room was still there. The house was fine. I was begining to wounder if I had imagined it. But as we got around, it was obvious that something had happened.
This first picture was our damage. This is our back alley. My husband's homemade "lean to" was blasted apart. Parts of it were all over the neighborhood. We were so thankful that neither of our dogs happened to be under it.

This house was a few blocks over.

This is an electrical pole. Some were pushed over, some weren't.

We are used to having the possibility of storms. I've grown up knowing the difference between a "Watch" and a "Warning". That was a day that it became very real to me.

wow, how scary. I can't stand the thought of a tornado
:( . We had had 1 hurricane and a couple of tropical storms in the house we live in. The bad hurricane, is the time we met at my Grandmother's house before we were married. Some of the storms were bad. Our house has flooded three times. During Carla salt water got about 4 1/2 feet in this house. During the other two floods, the water got about 1 1/2 feet and the second time about 4 inches. The wind was what I could hardly stand to hear. I think, still, I would rather know a hurricane was coming and leave than be in a tornado. Thanks be to God, He has always taken care of us. Connie from Texas

Thanks for the comments.
Connie-it seems no matter where you go in this country there is always something weather related to worry about. Tornados, hurricanes, blizzards, earthquakes...
