Hubby's Pride & Joy

Introducing....

The Sammy!
She is an African Spurred Tortiose. We've had her for 6 years. We bought her our first year of marriage, and she just fit in the palm of my hand. She was only a year old.
We actually went to the pet store to buy a ferrat. I saw how messy and smelly the ferrats were and wasn't too crazy about the idea. Then my husband came across the tiniest little turtle and was smitten. The pet store owner warned us that he (he told us she was a he) would get very large and would live a long time. However, standing there with this cute little creature in your hand-it just didn't seem to be an issue. Now that she is a foot long and weighs 10 lbs, we get it.
Its possible that one day we just won't know what to do with her, and we'll have to find her a better home. But, for right now we enjoy her.
During the winter she lives inside with us, and during the summer she lives in the backyard. She grazes like a cow.

I'm so impressed! What a neat pet, especially if he lives till your old age with you.
